The MOSAIC ART SCHOOL still coltivates the tradition of Roman and Byzantine Techniques.

Roman and Byzantine Technique The tradition of the Ravenna School is well known for its production. It has been able to combine tradition with the technological evolution of materials,  binders and supports, without compromising the authenticity of the mosaic product.
The tecniques are still founded on manual production, in a continuous evolution through the centuries, which has substantially modified only the substructure binding materials, improving their quality and resistance to adapt them to the contemporary technological needs.
glass paste, smalti, marble The material of the surface (tesserae) are the same as the originals, and they are still produced in Venice, according the old techniques.
They are vitreous materials - a sort of glass paste - called Smalti, that is completely different from the common vitreous paste, both in quality and aesthetic features. Typically these Smalti are cut by hand using a hack hammer + hardie. The result is a single tessera, that is exactly the shape and size you want.
The chromatic range is characterized by more than 3,000 colors!
mosaic making These features represent the uniqueness of the Ravenna mosaic. The use of a direct technique of execution (setting up a single tessera on fresh mortar) reaches levels of high aesthetic quality, giving a perception of movement.
